A multi-skilled person dedicated to assisting in all aspects of medical practice including administrative and clinical procedures under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician and Office Manager or Team Lead.
The Clinical Assistant will perform diagnostic testing under the supervision of the Physician/Extender.
Essential Functions Assist with patient examination or treatments, Perform diagnostic testing ( stress test and ABI's as well as EKG) May perform scribe functions by documenting all provider /patient interactions in the medical record under the supervision and responsivity of a license's clinician.
Observe and report patients' signs or symptoms:
Participate in Performance Improvement projects; Participates as an active care team member in the coordination of patient care Assist with patient Vital signs/medication reconciliation:
Provides a standard of excellent as it relates to customer service for patients, staff members, and other customers Assist with test scoring; Assist with report communication; Assist in venipuncture for lab draws Receives and directs messages, (electronic, in person and telephone calls) to the appropriate personnel.
Makes contacts to other departments, physicians, patients and other outside organizations as necessary for the departmental/practice operations.
Maintains patient scheduling functions, and sets patient appointments through established guidelines.
Interviews and completes the registration process for patients utilizing the specific service.
Keys patient dispositions, diagnostic codes, patient orders, charges and payments as defined in the electronic medical record.
Performs cashiering functions as it relates to co-payments or other patient payments/collections.
May perform routine clerical duties for the department.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
Organization/Prioritization Ability to organize and prioritize assignments to work independently as well as a collaborative team member.
Computers/Technology Basic computer literacy and arithmetic skills.
Training/Support Knowledge of ambulatory health care or related health care field.
Trained to perform The CA will be trained to perform Ankle Brachial Index testing on patients.
CA can perform ABI testing without direct supervision of Physician /Extender.
CA will perform all aspects of ABI testing and generate report for physician review and signature.
CA stress testing The CA will be trained in all aspects of Stress testing for low risk patients, this includes setting patient up for stress testing, monitoring patient while on treadmill, documenting HR and Blood Pressure while on treadmill, notifying Physician/Extender of any concerns during stress testing.
Monitoring patient after stress testing.
All under the direct supervision of the Physician/Extender who is present in the office while stress testing being performed.
Customer Service Ability to provide dynamic customer service using various techniques including positive language, calming presence, attentiveness, clear communication, and patience.
Organization/Prioritization Possesses critical thinking, prioritization, and organizational skills.
Communication Ability to communicate effectively and courteously, both orally and in writing.
Experience Requirements:
1 year Medical assistant preferred 2-4 years Clerical/customer service experience -ideally in a health care related industry preferred 1 year experience with third party payors and computer experience for in putting data and reviewing patient demographic material preferred Education Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required Other, Degree in medicine or other fields, with plans for a career in dental, medicine, advanced medical practice, pharmacy, chiropractor, physical and occupational therapy or other allied health fields.
Certification/Licensure Requirements:
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) required at time of hire BLS Required at time of hire.
